Anne Castine, director of development for Big Brothers Big Sisters Northeast Indiana, addressed the Angola City Council on June 15 and asked the community to recruit volunteers for one‑to‑one mentoring.
"We currently have kids that are what we call ready to be matched," Castine said, describing the program’s aim to pair caring adults with youth for regular activities and mentorship. She said the program serves 10 counties in northeast Indiana and two counties in southern Michigan and highlighted outcomes such as higher high‑school graduation rates, reduced risky behavior and increased self‑confidence.
Castine asked council members and community groups to invite the organization for 10‑ to 15‑minute presentations and provided contact details for applicants and partners: a phone number (260‑573‑4919) and the website bbsnei.org. She also encouraged following the organization’s social channels to share recruiting materials.
Council members asked for the phone number to be repeated for viewers; Castine obliged and left print materials at the meeting. Several council members and attendees offered brief personal endorsements of mentoring.
The presentation was informational; no funding request to the city was made during the council meeting.
