Council adopts ordinance to add part-time IT systems support technician

Bedford Heights council on June 2 adopted Ordinance 2026-038 to authorize hiring a part-time, non-exempt systems support technician in the city’s Information Technology Department and declared the matter an emergency.
Councilwoman Thomas moved to suspend the three-reading rule so the ordinance could be considered immediately; the motion was seconded and the suspension carried on a unanimous vote. The council then voted to adopt the ordinance. Thomas said she supports the hire but expects the position will need to become full-time as the department expands and that the city is taking a ‘‘one step at a time’’ approach to staffing.
The ordinance will allow the IT department to onboard technical support staff quickly to meet growing demands, supporters said. No salary or effective-hire details were included in the meeting record; those administrative details will be handled by city staff consistent with the ordinance provisions.
The council formalized the action by roll call at the meeting; recorded votes showed all present members voting in favor.
