John Reed, representing NNDC, updated the council on economic-development activities including a possible local buyer interested in the Safeway property (discussions under non-disclosure agreement), progress on business-assistance and hiring supports, and planning for a Regions One Nebraska housing roadshow to be hosted in Chadron later this summer.
Reed said he met an interested party about three hours before the meeting and will qualify any lead before making formal referrals. He described NNDC’s new housing-resources webpage and said the organization is coordinating local stakeholders for a regional housing presentation aimed at builders, funders and contractors.
He also reported bylaws had been updated (first revision since 2016) and said NNDC is improving its outreach and marketing channels, including social platforms and LinkedIn, to support recruitment of businesses to fill vacant commercial properties.
Councilmembers thanked NNDC for the updates and encouraged continued coordination with city staff on potential redevelopment and workforce-training opportunities.
