Council authorizes bids for new 911 dispatch console; county to share equipment cost

The City of Chadron authorized staff to solicit bids to replace the city’s 911 dispatch console after Communications Supervisor Gail Catel described the existing console as roughly 20–25 years old, worn and difficult to clean or service.
Catel said the current console houses multiple computers and monitors and that cable routing and dust intrusion are problems for equipment reliability. “We're looking to get something nice with a entire surface that raises up and down… the newer desks have storage consoles for the computers and cable runs for all the various cables,” she said.
Council noted the project is included in the capital budget and that the county will share the equipment cost for the console; staff said flooring replacement and temporary relocation of dispatch operations would be coordinated to keep 911 services running. The council agreed to language adjustments in the bid documents (e.g., changing “highest quality” to “high quality”) to avoid subjective procurement language.
Resolution 2026-48 was introduced and adopted on a unanimous roll call; staff will move forward with issuing the notice to bidders, then return to council for contract award and purchase approval. The council emphasized durability and serviceability as primary procurement criteria.
