EJ Roach, director of Economic and Community Development, told the council Riverfest 2025 will be held Thursday–Sunday, Sept. 18–21, moved up from the usual weekend to avoid overlapping the University of Maine family weekend.
Roach described the current Fire & Ice week, culminating Saturday from 5 p.m. to about 10 p.m., with downtown restaurant specials, a fire-pit walk along the river, Cub Scouts providing hot chocolate, and local community groups selling food and fundraising items. He said fireworks are scheduled for about 7:15 p.m. and the city asked the fireworks provider to limit the loudest effects to make the show quieter.
Roach reviewed sponsorship levels and logistics: some sponsors contributed to fireworks and others sponsored fire pits that will be placed along the waterfront. Businesses will be identified with lawn signs and QR codes; visitors who scan and visit multiple pits will be entered into prize drawings. Roach said sponsorships can cover a fire pit for three years and that organizers scaled back the event from last year so streets will remain open while encouraging downtown visits.
Among listed partners and sponsors were Stillwater Environmental, Old Town Canoe, Main Street Grill, Old Town Housing Authority, Governors Canoe, University Credit Union, and several local businesses.
What happens next: staff will continue event planning and public-notification steps, including social-media save-the-date postings and mailings to attract visitors.
