Old Town City Council on Jan. 6 approved several routine motions, including accepting a late tax redemption payment, reappointing members to town boards and awarding a bid to remove a city-owned building.
The council voted to accept a late redemption payment of $1,753 for property taxes owed on 366 Popular Street, a figure the motion noted includes interest, lien costs and a late-redemption fee. Councilors said the property is currently unoccupied and is in the process of being purchased.
Councilors also approved a slate of reappointments to advisory boards and committees with staggered term end dates. Reappointments named in the meeting included Brent Folster (Board of Assessment Review), Raymond Jbo and Cody Anderson (Airport Advisory Committee), Philip Dunn (Planning Board and Pollution Advisory Board) and others. The council noted that John Birmingham was removed from an Old Town Development LLC list after his resignation.
The council appointed Timothy Folster to an advisory role on the Juniper Ridge committee; members discussed that Folster is being listed as an adviser rather than a voting member because he does not currently live in the community and to minimize potential conflicts.
On a separate motion, the council accepted the lowest bid of $6,900 from Thon Construction to "raise" (remove) a city-owned building at 11 Grace Lane. Staff said the bid package specified that landfill disposal would be covered under the city's tipping allowance and that contractors are not responsible for disposal fees. The council set an expectation that the work be completed and the site secured by the end of February.
All of the items above were approved by voice vote during the meeting; the transcript records the motions and affirmative voice votes but does not record individual roll-call tally names for each action.
The council ended its public agenda business by approving a motion to enter executive session to consult with the city attorney under the transcript-cited legal authority ("MRSA title 405 section 6E").
