The Chelsea town board authorized the town to sign a contract with Plymouth Engineering to perform a building analysis and present options for the municipal building’s future, including short-, mid- and long-term scenarios.
Representatives from Plymouth Engineering, who identified themselves as Adam Violet and Scott Bry, said their work will include a fall 2024 assessment to determine whether the building is worth saving and a spring 2025 phase to develop cost estimates and design options. They described a three-phase approach: (1) determine viable options and scope, (2) prepare design and structural/site work, and (3) administer construction and bidding if the town proceeds.
Board members noted an aim to avoid raising property taxes for the project, citing use of ARPA funds, proceeds from a wood lot, and savings the town has accumulated (the manager noted roughly $600,000 available). The board moved and seconded a measure authorizing Christine to sign the contract with Plymouth Engineering; the motion was made and seconded on the record.
