Salem Township’s Planning Commission on Oct. 2 voted unanimously to advertise a special informational public meeting in November to gather comment on proposed amendments to the township’s Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (SALDO).
Township Solicitor Gary Falatovich asked the commission to prioritize two changes: a provision to allow the township to charge applicants for solicitor and engineering review fees and to collect developer escrows, and clearer definitions distinguishing minor and major subdivisions, land developments and side-lot additions where sewage facilities planning may not be required. Falatovich said focusing on those sections first will address recurring problems with upcoming developments and ensure residents are not subsidizing developers’ application costs.
Commissioners Paul Holleran, John Durco and Chair Connie Mattei voted to advertise the informational meeting, which is expected to occur in November. The commission also voted to adjourn and set the next regular meeting for Nov. 6, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. if an agenda is posted.
The advertised meeting will be informational and intended to solicit public comment before draft ordinance language is finalized; no final amendments were adopted at the Oct. 2 meeting.
