The East Lyme Board of Education voted June 15 to appoint Lisa Bala as the 10-month assistant principal at East High School, removing her interim title and making the appointment effective July 1, 2026.
School leaders said Bala has been with the district for 19 years, has served as a counselor and emerged as the top candidate after a competitive screening and interview process. During the meeting administrators noted her leadership skills and connection to students and staff as key reasons to make the permanent appointment.
"I'm truly honored to continue this work at East Lyme High School and serving this community," Bala said after the vote, thanking administrators, mentors and family members who appeared on camera. She told the board she was grateful for the support that helped her through a two‑decade career in the district.
Board members offered unanimous praise during the discussion. One member said Bala brings "positive energy" and problem‑solving skills; another urged that the district "bring the faces with us to more meetings" so the public can meet staff. The motion to remove the interim title and appoint Bala was made, seconded and approved by the board.
Bala introduced family members who joined the meeting and said she looks forward to continuing her work in the district. The board took a photo following the appointment; no additional personnel actions were announced at the meeting.
