Council places 5.079-acre parcel south of Epic Sports Park on surplus list to enable development

The Provo City Council voted unanimously on June 9 to place approximately 5.079 acres just south of the Epic Sports Park on the city’s surplus property list, clearing a procedural step the administration said is needed to enable sale and future development.
Cody Hill, division director of economic development, said the parcel was part of the land originally purchased for the Epic Sports Park and that the city has discussed zoning the bottom portion as commercial (SC2). Councilors said placing the parcel on the surplus list is a procedural requirement to allow negotiations and eventual sale to developers who may pursue hotel and restaurant uses adjacent to the airport and sports park.
Councilor Whitlock described the action as a procedural step to "make that happen for people who use the airport and the Epicenter Sports Park." The motion passed 7-0.
