Ross Township adds volunteer chaplain role to fire department policy

The Ross Township Board of Trustees voted to amend the township’s personnel policies to add a volunteer fire-department chaplain job description.
Fire Chief Chris Johns proposed the change during his monthly report, describing the position as volunteer-only and saying he had contacted Pastor White at a local Christian church to begin conversations about filling the role. “This is a resolution to create the position only at this point,” Chief Johns said; he also suggested waiting until the new year so the position could be incorporated into the staffing structure and pay-rate resolution.

Several trustees indicated they had not received an attachment with the job description before the meeting and asked staff to circulate the exhibit for review; the board approved the resolution on roll call.
No compensation was added—the position was described as volunteer—and the chief said the role would be made available to both the fire and police departments for pastoral needs. The board did not discuss an immediate candidate appointment at the meeting; Chief Johns said he had started conversations but recommended formalizing the position first.
