Christian County Commission approves insurance renewal, contracts and two rezonings

Christian County commissioners unanimously approved a liability insurance renewal with an 11.5% increase, renewed detention food services with Trinity Services Group, authorized road work and sales-tax distributions to four special road districts (part of a phased 20% reduction), and approved two rezoning requests.
Christian County commissioners met June 4 in Ozark and unanimously approved a series of routine but budget-relevant actions, including a liability insurance renewal, two contract awards and two rezonings.
Employee Services Director Amber Bryant and Greg Williams of Higinbotham Insurance told the commission the county’s loss ratio was 83% and the insurance renewal reflected an 11.5% rate increase; the board approved the renewal by motion (moved by Western Commissioner Johnny Williams; seconded by Eastern Commissioner Bradley A. Jackson). The vote was recorded as Aye: Jackson, Morris, Williams. The approval authorizes staff to finalize the county’s liability coverage renewal as presented.
The board also approved renewing RFP #2024-2 for detention food services with Trinity Services Group after a presentation by Captain Colton Craig and Purchasing Manager Kim Hopkins-Will. That motion passed unanimously.
Highway Administrator Miranda Beadles presented multiple road-related items. The commission approved a letter authorizing the Garrison Special Road District to chip-and-seal Garrison Ridge Road (Christian County holds the maintenance easement) and approved waiving fees as requested by the U.S. Forest Service. The board awarded RFQ design services for intersection improvements at Nicholas Road and Tracker Road to CJW Transportation Consultants, LLC, after the selection committee reviewed eight letters of interest.
Beadles also presented intergovernmental agreements to begin distributing proceeds from the county’s special sales-tax distribution program to four special road districts (Billings SRD, Garrison SRD, South Sparta SRD and Selmore SRD). Commissioners noted this is the first year of a planned phase-out that will reduce distributed funds by 20% and cap distributions at $80,000 per recipient; the agreements to start distributions were approved as presented.
In land-use matters, Resource Management Director Todd Wiesehan presented two rezoning hearings. The commission approved case no. 2026-0098 to rezone property owned by Maria Chieruzzi from R-1 and RR-1 to A-A (Agricultural District) and approved case no. 2026-0102 to rezone property owned by Matt Uber from R-1 to C-2 (General Commercial District). Both motions passed unanimously and associated commission orders were filed.
The commission briefly entered closed session under Missouri statute RSMo 610.021.3 for personnel matters and returned to open session; no public action or vote stemming from the closed session was recorded in the minutes. The meeting adjourned at 12:40 p.m.
The actions taken chiefly affect county budgeting and local land-use; staff will proceed with implementing the approved renewals, contracts, intergovernmental agreements and rezoning orders.
