Eastport Parks & Rec Committee accepts treasurer, reviews maintenance and fundraising tasks

The Eastport Parks & Recreation Committee accepted a new treasurer and spent most of its Jan. 7 meeting reviewing maintenance, outreach and fundraising matters that require follow-up.
Micah Winship opened the meeting at 6:06 p.m. and recorded attendees. Committee member Dave Grieco accepted the Treasurer position during the meeting; members thanked him for taking the role.
On park operations, members agreed to pause the hoop installation until better weather allows work to continue. Clark Duff reported he had called the park ranger at Shackford Head but had not received a callback; Donnie DeCesare said he has a link to the Shackford Maine website for printing brochures but noted producing brochures should be the responsibility of park staff. Christina Vizcarrondo will follow up with Ron and Dana to clarify Suddy Field maintenance after hearing that Dana will perform preparatory work but not ongoing upkeep.
The committee discussed an advertising idea to sell fence banners to donors. Laurie Stone reported she had contacted a sign maker for pricing; members debated whether a $1,000 donor price is too high and considered offering different banner sizes and price points.
Committee members also noted a $10,619 Park Fee and asked about its funding source and restrictions. Dave Grieco said he would contact Cami at City Hall to clarify where the fee originates and whether it is state-funded or otherwise restricted. Christina Vizcarrondo said she will speak with Wes at City Hall to get updates on Prince Cove beach.
Micah Winship said he will meet with Brian to clarify the dog park’s status, the fence update options and fundraising ideas.
The committee set its next meeting for Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025. The meeting was adjourned at 7:01 p.m.
