Village of Northfield council approves emergency resolution to add Milford Drive sidewalk

The Village of Northfield council unanimously approved Resolution No. 2026-13 on March 25, 2026, authorizing the mayor to enter an amended agreement with Tri Mor Corporation to add a sidewalk on Milford Drive only.

Councilperson Kevin Lewis distributed a spreadsheet summarizing a canvass he and Councilperson Zach Hebebrand conducted on Milford Drive: 23 residents indicated they wanted the sidewalk, seven were opposed and 16 homes had no one at home during the canvass. The results were presented to the council as part of the discussion on the emergency resolution.

Councilperson Alan Hipps moved to suspend the council’s three-reading rule so the resolution could be acted on the same night; Mr. Lewis seconded. A roll call vote recorded six yes votes — Mr. Hebebrand, Ms. Noack, Mr. Vojtush, Mr. Magistrelli, Mr. Hipps and Mr. Lewis — and the motion to suspend the rule carried.

Following the suspension motion, Councilperson Renell Noack moved to adopt Resolution No. 2026-13; Mr. Lewis seconded. The council again voted unanimously to adopt the legislation. The resolution directs the mayor to enter into an amended agreement with Tri Mor Corporation for the Milford Drive reconstruction project to add the proposed sidewalk on Milford Drive only; the text before the council specified that the sidewalk addition applies to Milford Drive and not to other streets in the project.

Engineer Dan Collins and Fire Captain Joe Zemek were recorded as present at the meeting. The clerk certified the minutes and approval; the meeting adjourned at 7:02 p.m.
