Council approves two maintenance hires, a budget tweak and ODOT salt participation

The Village of Northfield council on April 8 confirmed two emergency personnel appointments, approved a small amendment to the 2026 appropriations and authorized the village to participate in the Ohio Department of Transportation’s 2026 road-salt bid.
Law Director Brad Bryan read Resolution No. 2026-14 to confirm Mayor Jenn Domzalski’s appointment of Travis Reyersbach as a maintenance man in the Service Department. Councilmember Renell Noack moved to adopt the resolution; Alan Hipps seconded. A roll call vote recorded yes votes from Zach Hebebrand, Renell Noack, Gary Vojtush, Nick Magistrelli and Alan Hipps and the resolution was approved.
The council then adopted Resolution No. 2026-15 confirming Cole Shawala as a maintenance man after a motion by Alan Hipps and a second from Renell Noack; the same five members voted yes.
Council also approved Resolution No. 2026-16, amending the 2026 appropriation resolution. Finance Director Kara Dolansky asked to add $2,000 for cleaning supplies; Councilmember Gary Vojtush moved the amendment, seconded by Renell Noack. The amendment passed on roll call and the council subsequently suspended the three-reading rule and adopted the resolution by unanimous roll call.
Brad Bryan read Resolution No. 2026-18 authorizing the village to participate in the 2026 ODOT annual road-salt bid. The council voted to suspend the three-reading rule and adopt the resolution; roll call votes were all yes. City staff reported the village used 1,650 tons of salt this past winter and has requested 1,100 tons for the next season.
The council also heard first reading of Ordinance No. 2026-17, which would amend Section 452.19 of the traffic code to restrict parking of tractor trailers, certain commercial vehicles and vehicles/trailers for sale. Councilmember Alan Hipps asked that the ordinance be revised to clarify it applies only to commercial trailers, not residential trailers, and requested an additional reading; the ordinance will return for a second reading at the May meeting.
