Summary
The Carey fire department received a $28,700 small-counties grant for new nozzles and equipment; council also discussed rising fees paid to the City of Findlay for tax administration ($93,000 last year vs. $58,000 the prior year) and the possibility of hiring local staff but recommended delaying changes pending state tax-law developments.

Fire Chief Chad Snyder reported that the fire department was awarded a $28,700 small-counties grant through the state fire marshal's office to purchase new nozzles and equipment. Snyder specifically thanked Jen Rathburn for drafting the grant application on her own time. He also said the department plans to apply for the Assistance to Firefighters (AFP) grant when it becomes available.
Separately, council members discussed the village’s contract with the City of Findlay for tax administration services. Council members noted that payments to Findlay rose to about $93,000 for the previous year compared with $58,000 the year before, driven by the contract’s 1% administrative fee structure. Members discussed the prospect of hiring a local staff person to keep administrative dollars in town but agreed to wait on any change because the General Assembly may pass state income-tax changes expected to take effect in July; ending the Findlay agreement would require six months’ notice.
On Carey Fest, council noted a $5,000 platinum-level sponsorship (which includes fireworks) had already been budgeted; Mr. Conley disclosed he serves on the Carey Fest committee and indicated he would abstain from any formal vote.
Council took no additional formal action on tax-administration arrangements at the meeting.
