Two students raise $6,600 to equip Carey police cruisers with trauma bags

Police Chief Jeff Conley introduced two eighth-grade students, Molly and Isabella Kin of Our Lady of Consolation, who completed a community service project to equip Carey police cruisers with trauma bags.
Chief Conley said the students approached him during the winter asking what they could do for the village as part of a Starfish community-service project. The chief explained that the bags are designed to provide basic first-aid support for circulation, breathing and airway needs and that many commercial kits include supplies more suitable for EMTs than routine officer response. The students set a $500 fundraising goal but raised $6,600 through community donations; Chief Conley praised their initiative and thanked them for supporting public safety.
Council members expressed appreciation for the students’ work; one member noted that while they hope the bags never need to be used, it is reassuring to have them available in cruisers.
The funds will provide initial kits and resupply items for continued coverage of emergency calls.
