Park and recreation district to pursue early childhood center; workforce housing planned at Parachute Inn site

During board reports on Sept. 10, members relayed that Parachute/Battlement Mesa Park and Recreation purchased the brick building adjacent to Alpine Bank and intends to solicit grant funding to establish an Early Childhood Education Center in partnership with Garfield County School District No. 16 and Colorado Mountain College. The board said the project would take about one and a half years to complete.
Board members also reported that the Town of Parachute completed a site plan review for redevelopment of the Parachute Inn into workforce housing consisting of 68 one- and two-bedroom units; the Inn is slated for demolition in late winter. Board members said the Half Moon project is progressing slowly.
The minutes note that Parachute/Battlement Mesa Park and Recreation will seek grant funding and partner with the district and Colorado Mountain College; no grant sources, project budgets or formal agreements were described in the meeting record.
