Zeeland seeks Mission North to study downtown parking; SARB appoints working group

City staff told the Shopping Area Redevelopment Board on Nov. 13 that the city has sought outside help to address competing views about downtown parking.
Marketing Director Abigail deRoo said Rich and Associates completed the most recent downtown parking study but cannot provide direct assistance at this time and referred the city to Mission North, a Traverse City firm with a portfolio in parking management. Staff proposed that SARB and the Planning Commission contribute members to a parking working group to work with consultants on demand analysis, management and shared parking agreements.
Board members self-appointed Laura Gentry (south parking lot), Brian VanHoven (north parking lot) and Eric Barnes (SRC parking lot partner) as SARB representatives. Chairman Klynstra moved and Dick supported a motion to appoint Gentry, VanHoven and Barnes to the working group; all present voted aye and the motion carried.
The working group will coordinate with staff and the consultant to examine downtown parking demand, organization and shared-parking arrangements; no budget or schedule details were specified in the minutes.
