Jourdanton council outlines criteria for 2025 street project, schedules March 17 town hall

Mayor Pro Tem Chester Gonzales updated the Jourdanton City Council on the 2025 Street Project on March 2, saying advisory committee members identified streets staff could repair after the city purchases new equipment and flagged heavily trafficked main roads and in-city dirt roads for consideration.

The council heard from Jess Swaim, the city's engineer, who said project staff developed prioritization criteria that will guide which streets are repaired first. "We came up with criteria we will be looking at for choosing which streets will be fixed such as traffic, drainage, and utilities," Swaim said. He also announced a Town Hall meeting for March 17, 2026 to collect input from residents.

The project update emphasized that staff will balance immediate repairs possible once new equipment arrives with longer-term fixes on roads that require more substantial work or utility coordination. No formal vote or funding decision was taken at the meeting; the council scheduled the March 17 town hall as the next public step in shaping the project.

Council and staff said the town hall will be an opportunity for residents to identify specific street segments of concern and for staff to explain how the prioritization criteria will be applied. The city manager provided the routine monthly report during the same meeting but the council took no formal action on that report.

The council is expected to return to the street project after the town hall and further staff analysis to consider specific streets for repair and any necessary budget or equipment approvals.
