Summary
The Board discussed permanent town-records storage options, tabled the Stavola Building item, reviewed tree-treatment policy and potential removals, authorized bench-coordination with Harbor School, agreed to contact the animal-control officer, and authorized a utility burial evaluation provided it uses no Town funds.
At the May 27 meeting the Select Board covered several miscellaneous but substantive municipal items. S. Miller said the town has many records requiring permanent retention and suggested climate-controlled, fireproof vault storage; A. Woog reported outreach to R. Boulet who indicated the Blue Hill Library may have space, and Woog and D. Goettler will view the library storage on May 28. S. Miller recommended contacting the Maine Archivist to identify appropriate storage centers. The Board discussed temporary use of the Town basement for files slated for disposal in 3–10 years.
The Stavola Building agenda item was tabled pending further information. E. Best reviewed a past policy that allows a 50/50 Town contribution for treatment of trees in the road right-of-way, while trees entirely on Town property are the Town’s responsibility; members noted the Street Tree appropriation may be depleted and that some trees on Town property may need removal this year.
A. Woog will coordinate with M. Lawson and S. Gould and the Harbor School on installation of a new bench the students plan to donate. A. Ruiz will contact the animal control officer about the municipal update form for the Animal Welfare Program. W. Barton requested authorization to evaluate burying power, telephone and cable utility lines in the Village; the Board agreed to authorize Barton’s evaluation provided it requires no Town funds or resources. Finally, the State provided a likely final interpretive panel describing the Falls Bridge and the Reversing Falls associated with recent bridge replacement; the Board reviewed the panel copy.
