Blue Hill Select Board approves summer events, $2,000 donation and mobile-home tax charge

The Town of Blue Hill Select Board on May 4 approved permits and funding decisions intended to support community events and correct a warrant oversight, and set a supplemental tax charge for a mobile home for the 2026 tax year.

E. Best, chair of the Select Board, opened the meeting at 5:30 p.m. The board recorded a quorum with members S. Miller, B. Adams and J. Wootten present and D. Goettler serving as town clerk and minute taker.

The board approved a request from the Blue Hill Heritage Trust to hold its annual foot race on Aug. 1, 2026, subject to the trust coordinating traffic safety with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. The board discussed safety along the portion of the route on Mountain Road before voting 4-0 to approve the event.

The Select Board also approved a request to hold a series of Monday-evening concerts in the Water Street Town Park over the summer, voting 4-0 to allow the dates requested. The transcript refers to the applicant first as "Flash! in the Pans" and later as "Peninsula Pan’s"; the board granted the park use for the dates submitted but the record contains that inconsistent naming.

To remedy an omission from the Town Meeting warrant, the board voted 4-0 to award a $2,000 donation to Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County. The funds will come from the Select Board’s fund for unanticipated expenditures, the board said.

On a separate administrative item, the board voted 4-0 to charge the owner of the mobile home at Map 029 Lot 092 for the 2026 tax year using an estimated mil rate of 10.25; the board then signed the requested document stating taxes to be paid in full.

Select Board member J. Wootten reported he is compiling a list of repairs needed at the Stavola Building and said any prospective tenant would be financially responsible; he said he will finish the list by the end of the week. Wootten also said he will contact the owner of a vehicle that has frequently blocked the Washington Street crosswalk before the town begins issuing tickets.

A representative of the Maine Center for Disease Control notified the board of a planned health event on May 21 in the Blue Hill Library parking lot; the board determined no town permissions were required. Drummond Woodsum invited board members to a municipal leaders gathering, which Chair E. Best said they plan to attend. S. Miller said they will meet a prospective candidate for a second code enforcement officer on May 5; the candidate is a retired contractor.

The board voted 4-0 to enter executive session under 1 M.R.S. §405(6)(A) to discuss personnel matters at 6:00 p.m.; the executive session ended at 6:20 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 6:21 p.m., and Disbursement Warrants were signed.
