Select Board approves purchase of playground wood chips; seller abstains

The Town of Blue Hill Select Board on May 27 voted to buy a load of wood chips for the municipal playground using money from the recreation fund and to purchase those chips from board member B. Adams at cost, with Adams abstaining from the purchase vote.
During the public-comment portion of the meeting, B. Adams offered surplus wood chips previously used in Surry. A. Woog and E. Best noted the playground fund has been fully spent and recommended the town use the recreation fund for the purchase. The Board first approved — by a 4–0 vote — to fund the purchase from the recreation fund, then approved the transaction to buy the chips from B. Adams at cost by a 4–0 vote with one abstention (B. Adams).
Board members also noted concerns about the park being used after hours and recommended contacting the Sheriff to help address after-hours access and enforcement.
The action was recorded as two formal votes in the minutes: approval to use the recreation fund and approval to purchase from B. Adams with an abstention. No dollar amounts for the purchase were included in the minutes.
