Harwinton Housing Authority approves signatory change, funds $2,300 mold repair at Unit 19

The Harwinton Housing Authority on June 8 unanimously approved a change to how it lists the board’s secondary bank signer and addressed a recent plumbing leak and mold remediation at unit 19.
At the start of the meeting, Treasurer Bill Gangloff reported the authority’s current balance of $9,634.92 and said the Harwinton Historical Society has been paying rent about two weeks early. Gangloff said he will contact the tenant identified as “Harry” and ask that rent be sent on the first of each month for record-keeping.
Gangloff also told the board that the bank currently shows a deceased person’s name for the secondary signer and that the institution should instead reference the office title. Chair Kerrie Anderson moved to withdraw herself as the secondary signer; Resident Representative Charlotte Mochak seconded the motion, which passed with members responding "aye." Treasurer Gangloff said he will notify the bank about using the title “chairman” rather than an individual’s name.
Maintenance Manager Dave Fortin reported a water leak at unit 19 caused by a cracked pipe inside a wall. Fortin said the pipe was replaced, the wall repaired and mold was remediated; he reported the expense at $2,300. Fortin also noted that Mason Beers of Harwinton Electric arrived that evening to provide the authority with a final quote for a whole-house generator.
Administrator Denise Georgiadis said she has hired a father-and-son team to handle weeding and tree trimming around the properties and will ask the town about removing a bank of earth near the buildings. Georgiadis said she will be on a reduced schedule most Fridays for the summer and will post hours on the office door; Fortin will continue to be present on Fridays.
The board’s actions were routine and procedural: minutes were approved as read, and motions on signatory changes and adjournment passed by voice vote. The authority did not vote on the generator purchase at this meeting; the Harwinton Electric quote was presented but no final procurement action was recorded.
The meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
