Wallington health inspector reports mice complaint, business cleanliness issues; board to post local resources and consider informational event

The Wallington Board of Health at its March 18 meeting reviewed routine inspection activity and local public-health reports, including several complaints and planned follow-ups.

Registered Environmental Health Specialist Halina Dabrowska told the board that multiple complaints received since the last meeting required follow-up. She reported a mice complaint at a residential property for which treatment had been scheduled. Dabrowska said Retro Fitness had completed some cleaning but that showers and bathrooms still required additional attention. A hot-water complaint at Lucky Strike was resolved after a follow-up visit confirmed hot water had been restored; management provided a photograph showing a temperature reading above 115 degrees. Dabrowska also noted debris had been cleaned around an oil container at Supreme Bagel but the container remained uncovered and would require further follow-up.

The board reviewed deposit and licensing reports for February 2026: registrar deposits totaled $340.00 and license-clerk receipts totaled $15,075.00 across listed business categories; the Board of Health deposit was recorded as $0.00. The County of Bergen animal control report for February — covering routine calls for stray animals, wildlife complaints and standard patrol activity — was also reviewed.

Under old business, members reviewed a list of community resources prepared by Valeria of Mid-Bergen and agreed the information would be posted on the borough website. The board discussed holding an initial informational event for families and residents to identify community needs and share available resources; an outside contact may be consulted for further guidance as the program develops.

Barbara Pinto moved to approve the reports; Patricia Barnas seconded. The roll call vote was recorded as Barnas, Pinto, Tomko, Majchrzak—AYE.
