Bentleyville council authorizes 2026 asphalt program planning and to seek county resurfacing funds for Miles Road

Council authorized the Village Engineer to prepare plans and specifications and advertise bids for the 2026 Asphalt Program, with the Village reserving the right to reject any and all bids. The motion to authorize plan preparation and advertising was recorded as a unanimous voice vote.

Engineer and Building Official Jeff Filarski told council he had contacted Signal Service about a quote to install adjustable louvers on the traffic signal at Miles Road and recommended submitting an application to the county 50/50 resurfacing reimbursement program (which offers reimbursement up to $250,000) for Miles Road, with a completion target of 2028. Filarski also suggested soliciting three quotes from registered contractors to replace outlets on the Solon Road bridge and indicated Jackie (Village staff) can provide a list of registered contractors or contractors can register with the Village.

Service Director Matt Maistros reported operations are moving toward spring and that roughly 150 tons of salt remain in storage with about 100 tons expected to be delivered this week. Mayor Kathleen Hale said a local vendor, Native Landscaping, will prepare a plan for perennial plantings around Village Hall at her expense and will meet with staff next Friday.

What happens next: the Engineer will prepare plans and advertise bids for the asphalt program; the Village may apply for county resurfacing funds for Miles Road to reimburse up to $250,000 if approved; staff will solicit multiple quotes for small bridge electrical work and report back to council when bids are received or when more detailed engineering is available.
