Superintendent reports bond and construction milestones, suspension decline and summer projects

Superintendent Adam Subinowski gave the board a facilities and operations update at the June meeting, reporting progress on bond projects, upcoming summer work and changes in student discipline data.
Bond and construction: Subinowski said the high-school paving project is underway with sidewalks poured and partial barricades in place; middle-school and high-school flooring work started the same day. He said footings and foundations for a new school gym were scheduled to begin at the end of the week and that a large HVAC condenser had been set in place via crane. He noted the gym must be partially in place for August school start because of its location relative to existing structures.
Discipline data: Subinowski reported 64 suspensions and one expulsion districtwide for the year, compared with 128 suspensions the prior year and roughly 61–81 in other recent years; he characterized last year as an anomaly and said the district is “about back to normal.” When asked how bullying incidents are reported, he clarified reports may come from students, parents or staff and that an investigation and documented outcome determine whether an incident meets the statutory definition of bullying.
Summer projects: The superintendent outlined non-bonded summer work items, including a $10,000 repair to the track, gym bleacher repairs and repainting, and plans to automate the transportation-office gate (noting electrical/power work remains to be solved). He said Brandon Weingerts and facilities staff will present a fuller roll-up of summer work in August.
Spring sports recap: Education staff (Mr. Pollson) summarized spring athletics achievements earlier in the meeting — multiple teams qualified for regionals and states, boys track earned multiple state-qualifying performances and all-state recognitions, the baseball program won a regional title but lost in quarterfinals, and Esports and co-op lacrosse were noted for high participation. The district was cited as ranked 28th in the state for student-athlete programming by niche.com, a ranking attributed largely to participation rates.
Subinowski said the district expects continued construction progress over the summer and will return with a compiled project summary for the board in August.
