Johnson said the neighborhood preferred the playground‑move option over a smaller set of safety fixes.
Staff proposed using about $97,000 in park‑dedication funds to build the northerly connection and to sequence the work with previously approved capital items (about $265,000) for the playground and tennis court recoating. They proposed staging additional amenities through volunteer bench programs, friends groups and potential sponsorships (including outreach to a nearby university as a possible sponsor for amenities such as a GAGA pit or pump‑track expansion).
Council and commissioners supported the plan and the funding approach. Council member Schroeder moved and Council member Graf seconded the motion to proceed and to use park dedication funds as outlined; the motion carried unanimously.
Staff said next steps include design and scheduling in coordination with the Hamlin Avenue pathway work and further public communication about scope and timing.
