North Baltimore council hires part‑time officer and dispatcher, approves event permits and discusses police tech package

The Village of North Baltimore council on Oct. 14 approved two public‑safety hires and multiple event permits and discussed a proposed police technology package.

Public Safety committee motions approved hiring David J. Fenstermaker as a part‑time police officer at a starting rate of $24.50 per hour (motion by Ms. Hefner, second by Mr. Cook) and hiring Iris J. Schorsch as a part‑time dispatcher at a starting rate of $15.45 per hour (motion by Mr. Engard, second by Mr. Richmond). Those motions were recorded as approved.

Council also approved All Event Permits for the Halloween parade on Oct. 25 (motion by Mr. Cook), an auction at 400 W. Water St. on Nov. 1 (motion by Mr. Engard) and a Scout Camporee scheduled for April 24–26, 2026 (motion by Mr. Richmond). All event‑permit motions were seconded and recorded as approved.

On police technology, Sgt. Brossia (acting police chief) said he would distribute copies of the police report. The council discussed a technology package offered by Axon; Mayor Aaron Patterson and Mr. Bender said they support including the package in the budget. Ms. Hefner asked how long implementation would take once a contract is signed, and Mr. Clouse asked whether the department could reduce its number of tasers from 10 to eight to save costs. The council directed the mayor and Sgt. Brossia to review relevant line items after the meeting.
