Council approves $1,500 Chamber concert sponsorship; two members recuse

The Exeter City Council approved a $1,500 sponsorship for the Exeter Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Summer Concert Series on Feb. 24, with two council members recusing from the item.
City Administrator Jason Ridenour presented the Chamber's request. Mayor Pro Tem Jeff Wilson and Council Member Frankie Alves recused themselves from the dais and did not participate in discussion or voting because of disclosed conflicts of interest. Erica Pine, president of the Chamber of Commerce, provided public comment on the event’s history and availability for questions.
After discussion among the remaining members, the council approved the sponsorship with a recorded 3-0 vote; two members were recorded as abstaining/recused in the minutes. The minutes do not record a specific motion maker or seconder. Mayor Jacob Johnson and Council Members Vicki Riddle and Bobby Lentz voted in favor.
The sponsorship includes a facility use request and a fee waiver previously approved on the consent calendar for the Chamber’s Garden Party fundraiser; the record shows the council addressed event support as part of the council’s event partnerships and community engagement work.
