The Marion County Contract Review Board on June 15 approved a discretionary action to permit correction of a clerical error in the apparent low bid for the Howell Prairie Road culvert reconstruction.
Public Works representative Camber Schlag explained that the Invitation to Bid closed May 19 and multiple bids were received. The apparent low bidder’s handwritten line item calculations were correct, but the handwritten contract number entry was $110 less than it should have been. Correcting the clerical error raises the contractor's amount to $144,257. Staff asked the board to waive the minor informality so the apparent lowest responsible bidder would remain eligible for contract award; if the board did not waive the informality, the bidder would be deemed nonresponsive and the award would move to the second lowest bidder.
Commissioner Janet Carlson moved to approve the discretionary action allowing the clerical correction; Commissioner Sam Brentano seconded and the motion carried by unanimous voice vote. The board then recessed back to its regular session and read the public hearings calendar before adjourning.
