The Marion County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on June 15 to approve a request from the family of a recently deceased prior owner to repurchase a tax‑foreclosed property at 1272 23rd Street NE (Tax ID R71640) and to remove the property from a public auction scheduled for June 23.
Finance staff (Jeff White and Caron Galvin) told the board the property had been deeded to the county through tax foreclosure and that the family requested to buy the property back after learning the owner, Ms. Sprenger, had died in May. The family asked the county to waive an administrative fee of $2,556.80; the board declined to waive that fee. The family remains responsible for prior taxes and interest. The assessed value for the property was stated as roughly $105,000.
Commissioner Janet Carlson moved to approve the sale back to the prior owner’s family and to remove the parcel from the June 23 auction; Commissioner Sam Brentano seconded and the voice vote was unanimous.
The board did not record any separate amendments to the motion or conditional directions to staff beyond noting the administrative fee would not be waived and prior taxes and interest must be paid. The action removes the parcel from the county auction list and permits staff to proceed with the repurchase transaction under the conditions discussed.
