Oregon Garden Foundation reports rising attendance; Marion County board accepts Q2 report

The Marion County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 20 accepted the Oregon Garden Foundation’s second-quarter report, which showed a year-to-year increase in visitor attendance and continued fundraising and planning work.
Mark Hunter, development director for the Oregon Garden Foundation, told the board that Christmas in the Garden attracted close to 9,000 ice skaters and that annual attendance rose to about 35,000 visitors, compared with roughly 22,500 the prior year. Hunter said the resort reached about 78 percent occupancy and that staff have remediated parking issues, are developing improved fundraising approaches and plan to finalize a strategic plan in the coming months.
Commissioner Sam Brentano moved to accept the report; Commissioner Kevin Cameron seconded and the motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
