The Castine Selectboard voted unanimously to adopt an updated General Assistance (GA) ordinance, using the September 2024 version presented at the April 7 meeting.
Town Manager Derik Goodine said the GA appendices are updated annually but the full ordinance itself had not been updated in about ten years. Town Clerk Susan Macomber reminded the board that state law grants the Selectboard authority to adopt GA ordinances locally. “Most Ordinances can only be adopted, revised or amended by the Town voters. The GA Ordinance is one where the State gives authority to the Selectboard,” Macomber said.
Dan Leader moved approval and Amy Gutow seconded; the motion carried 3-0. The adoption updates local assistance rules and will be incorporated into town procedures; the Selectboard did not specify changes to benefit levels during the meeting.
