Benton County supervisors approve routine payroll, personnel actions and three resolutions

The Benton County Board of Supervisors on June 9 unanimously approved routine payroll and personnel measures and adopted three resolutions covering a wage adjustment, a temporary road closure and the county’s primary election canvass.
Chairman Tracy Seeman and Supervisors Ronald Tippett and Bruce Volz voted to approve the meeting agenda, minutes of June 2, payroll and vendor claims and a 16½‑hour vacation carryover for employee Grace Schmidt.
The board adopted Resolution #26‑48 to set the hourly base wage of Charles Betterton at $29.30, effective June 15, 2026, following completion of a six‑month probationary period. The resolution records the position as Labor Grade IVB.
The board also approved Resolution #26‑49 to close a portion of 59th Street Drive in Taylor Township for culvert construction, from U.S. Highway 218 west approximately 1.0 mile to 22nd Avenue Drive, effective June 10, 2026, through project completion.
Elections Deputy Gina Edler read the 2026 Primary Election canvass. The board approved Resolution #26‑50 certifying the canvass under §43.49 and §50.24 of the Code of Iowa, recording turnout of 3,948 voters (3,528 in‑person, 420 absentee, one provisional not accepted). The canvass also listed nominees for county offices, including Bethany Hantz for Board of Supervisors (District 2) and Melinda Schoettmer for county treasurer.
All motions and resolutions at the session carried by unanimous vote.
