Village reports water-plant valve failure, manganese-related discoloration; repairs expected in weeks

At a board meeting the Village Manager said the plant's altitude valve quit early Sunday and staff worked long hours to reroute water and manually operate the system. "Dustin worked a lot of hours Sunday morning trying to get that figured out," the Manager said, and staff used a manual procedure to relieve pressure and allow the valve to open until a replacement arrives.
Officials also said the equipment that removes manganese "is not taking magnes out," producing brownish discoloration in treated water. The Village Manager cautioned that the discoloration is cosmetic and said the water is not considered harmful to drink, and that a replacement part has been ordered with an estimated arrival of two to three weeks.
Village staff asked for patience while on-call operations continue and noted they can manually control the system in the interim. No formal action or vote was taken; the Manager said staff will monitor water quality and complete repairs when parts arrive.
