Eliot Aging in Place committee approves outreach plans, small expenditures and spring-card mailing

The Eliot Aging in Place Committee on Feb. 18 approved several routine items and planned community events for 2026, including a town-hall showcase appearance, a $100 allocation for spring greeting cards, and the purchase of an AIP address stamp.
At the start of the meeting, Treasurer Melissa Layman reported account balances of $74.73 in a New England GWEP Grant account and $1,660.77 in town budget funds and said there were "no changes" since the last report; the committee voted to accept the treasurer's report (April Herbold moved; Jennifer Stavros seconded).
Under new business the committee agreed to staff a table at a town-hall showcase on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and Nedra Sahr will represent Aging in Place. The group also approved administrative items: Melissa Layman moved to buy an AIP address stamp (cost estimated under $40), April Herbold seconded and the motion passed unanimously; Jennifer Stavros moved to spend $100 on approximately 100 spring cards with a target mailing date of March 21, Heidi West seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Members plan to fill, address and apply postage to the cards at the March 18 meeting.
The committee discussed potential programs and events for 2026—writing and journaling groups, knitting classes, craft nights, movie nights with discussion, the Bone Builder program, Chair Yoga (Tuesdays, Feb. 24–Mar. 31) and the recurring "Coffee with the Guys" gatherings on the first and third Tuesdays at Dunkin'. The next committee meeting was scheduled for March 18, 2026; the Feb. 18 meeting adjourned at 5:14 p.m.
