Mack described plans to develop post‑high‑school pathways, citing Career Exploration/Internship efforts and connection to TSC Emergent Campus/PWR under HB25‑1278; the district aims to establish an internship once per week by the end of the school year. The district completed its Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) and shared it with teachers; administrators noted the UIP was not required because students’ test scores met accreditation thresholds.
Principal Holly Massarotti gave classroom and staff updates: teacher nominations for “Farmer of the Week,” ongoing collaboration with BOCES for literacy leadership and data‑driven reading plans, completion of teacher self‑assessments in RANDA, and recent professional development that included concussion protocol training. Mack said MTSS (Multi‑Tiered System of Supports) will be implemented across classrooms as a response‑to‑intervention framework.
On facilities, Mack presented a 2019 structural engineer report and confirmed completion of a backflow preventer inspection; Head of Maintenance Mark Cappellucci updated the board on crawl‑space work, water‑usage monitoring and upcoming operations and maintenance meetings. The board briefly discussed insurance coverage for the 1922 field house and options for four extra glass basketball backboards found in storage.
Administrators also reviewed grants and funding efforts: a San Isabel grant was awarded for a new fieldhouse speaker system; requests or planning were under way for Bar NI (EMR class), Nathan Yip (robotics pathway), the BEST Grant (capital improvement planning, opening Jan. 2026), and ELAT resources for K‑3 reading. Mack said the district is considering a 'go green' grant to update toilets to conserve water pending a water‑line assessment. Food‑service staff reported that free‑and‑reduced forms were processed and reimbursement claims for August and September had been submitted.
On safety and emergency planning, the district is coordinating with the Las Animas County Sheriff, Hoehne volunteer firefighters and other partners; Chief Kolakowski is assisting with acquiring new radios for school and bus communications. A fire drill occurred Oct. 14 and the district plans a hold drill in November.
What happens next: administrators will pursue grant applications, refine internship pathway plans, schedule further maintenance work, and host the County Assessor presentation on the mill levy at a future meeting if invited.
