Two Eliot residents, April and Seth Herbold, spoke in support of the sidewalk, saying it would improve safety and connectivity in the village center. Select Board member Mr. Trott opposed endorsement, saying the town’s money might be better used elsewhere and raising concerns about long-term maintenance costs.
Planning Board Chair Bennett told the board the sidewalk aligns with the town’s Comprehensive Plan survey results, which emphasized interest in a more walkable village center. The board’s endorsement is a direction to pursue the project administratively and to place the final funding/approval question on an upcoming ballot so voters can decide the project’s fate.

No formal vote on ballot scheduling was taken at this meeting.
