Select Board approves removal of large beaver dam threatening Station Road

The Town of Bradford Select Board voted Sept. 16 to authorize removal of an approximately eight-foot-tall beaver dam that has raised water levels roughly six feet above Station Road and threatens the roadway if the dam fails.
Carlene Oakes moved that Erik remove the beaver dam on Station Road; Edward Nevells (Ed) seconded and the motion passed 4-0. The minutes state Erik will remove the dam in sections because of the volume of water, and that material taken from the dam will be used to build an access road for equipment.
Board members said ditching is scheduled for Sept. 28 near the beaver dam. The minutes note concern that if the dam breaks the town could lose the road and that removal must be sequenced to manage water flow and equipment access.
