Hoehne school board cancels Nov. 4 election, declares four candidates elected by acclamation

The Hoehne Reorganized School District No. 3 Board of Education voted Sept. 24 to cancel the Nov. 4, 2025 school board election after determining that the number of qualified candidates did not exceed the number of offices to be filled.
Board Member Torrey Walters moved, seconded by Renee Monohan, to adopt a resolution canceling the election under Colorado Revised Statute 1-5-208(1.5); the motion passed unanimously. The resolution instructs the designated election official, Hannah David, to notify the county clerk and recorder, publish notice of the cancellation, and take appropriate steps to prorate election expenses to date.
The board then accepted a declaration of candidates to be elected by acclamation. By unanimous roll call, the board declared Torrey Walters (Director District 2), Jim Montoya (Director District 3), Renee Monohan (Director District 5), and Jess Cannon (Director District 6) elected. The designated election official is to provide certificates of election; each declared candidate must take the oath of office within 10 days to be qualified to participate in board meetings.
Why it matters: Cancelling a scheduled school board election shifts selection of members from a contested vote to acclamation when the number of qualified candidates equals or is fewer than seats available. The board cited Colo. Rev. Stat. 1-5-208(1.5) in its resolution directing the election official to notify appropriate entities of the cancellation.
