The Bremen Board of Selectmen discussed a five-year invasive-plant management proposal and preliminary repair estimates for the Town Landing dock at its Feb. 6 meeting, and directed staff to involve residents in herbicide decisions and to convene the Harbor Master for design review.
Ann Nesslage of the Bremen Conservation Committee outlined an invasive-plant-control proposal for the Hilton O'Connor property that included cost estimates for approaches using herbicide and for non-herbicide methods. Board members said residents should be included in any decisions about herbicide use to avoid negative repercussions. Selectman John "Boe" Marsh suggested the consultant, Bob Barkalow, provide greater detail on the process.
Town Clerk Melanie Pendleton recommended an informational meeting at the Town Center with notice on the town website and email list to inform residents and collect input on whether and how herbicide should be used.
Separately, the board discussed repair estimates and shore stabilization for the Town Landing dock. Town representatives said a sketch showing pilings and cross bracing will be completed as part of the cost-estimating process. A follow-up meeting will be scheduled with Harbor Master Melanee Gilbert to discuss suggested designs and cost estimates.
No formal votes were recorded on treatment approach or dock design at the meeting; the board scheduled further discussion and public outreach.
