Bremen selectmen approve roadside mowing contract and review RSU 48 budget, roadwork and a solar ordinance draft

BREMEN — The Town of Bremen Board of Selectmen on May 1 voted 3-0 to accept a roadside mowing proposal from contractor Gary Castner for $1,520.82 and approved routine meeting minutes and warrants.
Chair Wendy Pieh made the motion to accept the mowing contract, which Selectman John "Boe" Marsh seconded. The board unanimously approved the contract. Later in the meeting the board, on a motion by Pieh and seconded by Selectman Steve Page, voted 3-0 to approve the April 17, 2025 minutes, the April 25, 2025 warrant, and the April 17 abatement minutes. The board then voted 3-0 to adjourn at 5:12 p.m.
The meeting also included several updates. Selectman John "Boe" Marsh reviewed the RSU 48 school budget process, noting that the district votes the entire budget as one unit and that the district-level vote will take place Tuesday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. at Great Salt Bay School. Marsh said Bremen's share of the RSU 48 budget represents a 2.8% increase, or about $49,000, for pre-K through grade 12, including adult education.
Road Commissioner Dave Adkins reported that contractor All-State has completed shimming work on Rial Herald and Nobleboro roads. Adkins said Nobleboro has been trimmed by Adkins and a colleague, Tom, and that crews will move on to additional roads in coming weeks.
Nick Delprete of the Solar Committee told the board the committee is continuing work on a town solar ordinance; the committee is on draft number five and will schedule another meeting to continue drafting the ordinance.
Chair Pieh announced that absentee ballots for the upcoming municipal election will be available beginning Wednesday, May 28.
