Charlie, the city manager, told the council the organization has frontloaded much of the city-side budget work and that the printed budget book is ready for distribution to council members next week.
He said departments have already prepared new requests, and staff plan presentations from IT and other high-demand functions. Charlie emphasized a focus on operational reviews early in the cycle to avoid late-night problem solving and highlighted the IT team’s outsized role in organizational productivity.
On timing, councilors discussed preferred start times for workshops. A motion to set the meeting time at 6 p.m. was made and seconded; the council agreed to that start time and staff said they would update the website and calendar invites.
Calendar notes: staff outlined workshops and deadlines through April: an April 2 joint school/council workshop (final-ish school number), an April 9 council final presentation and vote timed to meet school ballot deadlines, city department sessions on April 16, and public-works and debt/finance items on April 23. Staff also asked councilors to volunteer for municipal committees with current vacancies and said they would circulate an updated committee roster.
Next steps: staff will publish corrected calendar entries and issue invites for the April meetings; the council will receive a version-two school budget on April 2 for further review.
