The Belfast City Council on Aug. 6 approved several routine personnel, donation and administrative requests during its regular meeting. Key votes and outcomes:
- Police hire: Council confirmed Michael Bousquet as a full-time officer for the Belfast Police Department. Motion passed 5–0; the council performed a ceremonial pinning for the officer.
- K-9 vest donation: Council accepted a donated bullet- and stab-proof vest for police canine Spud from Vested Interest Inc.; motion passed 5–0.
- Executive assistant appointment: Council appointed Ava Kelly of Searsmont as executive assistant after the hiring committee's unanimous recommendation; motion passed 5–0.
- Event fee waiver: Council approved a waiver of the boathouse rental fee for the Maine Wiener Fest (Sept. 7–8) for the nonprofit organizer while retaining the $250 security deposit; motion passed 5–0.
- Sewer-line repair: Council authorized expenditure of up to $26,500 to replace approximately 300 feet of sewer line serving 145 Charles Street and a new home at 146; materials will be city-provided and installation contracted; motion passed 5–0.
All of the above motions were recorded during the meeting and are included in the council's minutes. The traffic ordinance to add a three-way stop at Miller and High Street was considered separately and adopted 4–1 (see separate article).
