Greenfield mayor flags infrastructure problems, proposes review of employee handbook

Mayor Chris Borreson used his report at the Jan. 20 Village of Greenfield council meeting to highlight several infrastructure and administrative matters the council may need to act on.
Borreson said a leak on 7th Street is allowing water and ice to run downhill through gravel and that crews will address the problem soon; he noted that 23 tons of pothole mix had been delivered and that pothole repairs are imminent. He also said he met with a Landbank administrator and that, if Greenfield acquires a South Washington Street property, the Landbank would help with demolition; Borreson said a meeting with Pat Hays will be scheduled to discuss next steps.
On administrative matters, Borreson told the council that newly issued employee handbooks contained "many discrepancies" and asked that council repeal the new handbooks and return to the prior versions. He also noted that an alley vacation application filed earlier had been retracted.
The council received the Greenfield Police Department report during the meeting; Chief J. Oyer's December 2025 report (submitted to council) lists monthly call volumes, arrests, crash and staffing statistics that the mayor and council can reference when budgeting public safety work and street repairs.
