During public comment at the June 10 meeting, resident Ron Homer said the repaving of Lyndon Street and addition of bicycle and parking lanes narrowed travel lanes and encouraged dangerous passing, including motorists driving through painted bike lanes and passing on the right. Homer said few cyclists use the street because a nearby trail provides a safer route and urged the council to remove the bike lanes.
Council member Mr. Preston asked staff to supply background on the decision to add the bike and parking lanes for the cited Lyndon stretch, any documented safety concerns and hard numbers so the council can consider whether converting the stretch back to four lanes is warranted. No immediate staff action or schedule was set in the meeting; Mr. Preston requested follow-up outside the meeting.
The comments were made during the public comment period at the end of the council agenda and prompted council members to ask for further information rather than take immediate policy action.
