CDD asked to join storm-surge resilience planning after hypothetical map shows major flood exposure

Eric Long, PSGRC General Manager, asked the River Ridge CDD on Oct. 22 to participate in a multi-year resilience planning effort to address increasingly severe storm surge and climate impacts.
Long said staff have prepared an action plan looking ahead five to ten years and proposed creating an advisory/review panel to coordinate resilience measures across property owners, the CDD, the Village and county and state agencies. He cited presentations from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Collier County as an example of possible ideas to pursue if funding becomes available.
Long described a hypothetical scenario based on a topographic map in which a 10-to-12-foot storm surge could have flooded roughly 45% to 55% of the community, and said some mitigation measures (for example panels) would be insufficient alone and that addressing the issue could take a decade and require coordination across multiple agencies. The board agreed to have Mr. Long and newly appointed Mr. Merrill assist and authorized District Engineer Charlie Krebs to provide support as necessary.
No funding allocation or formal intergovernmental agreement was adopted at the meeting; the discussion focused on planning, coordination and identifying a board liaison.
