Pownal Select Board approves $71,161 in bills, releases Meadow Brook funds and OKs Victory Way

Pownal Select Board voted on a set of routine administrative and facilities matters during its Oct. 14 meeting at Mallett Hall.
The board approved FY26 Accounts Payable Warrant #10 for $71,161.37 and Payroll Journal #140 for $17,867.31. Town Administrator Becky Taylor-Chase explained the payroll total included the first-quarter payout under an EMS on-call grant that pays staff to be available during specified periods. Selectperson Kate Day moved the payroll motion and Selectperson George Pottle seconded; the votes were unanimous.
The board also approved release of Meadow Brook developer funds after the town’s previous road commissioner confirmed completion. The town will return $26,753.33 from the work-guarantee account and $1,934.65 from the inspection account, on a motion by Day and second by Pottle.
The board supported Assessing Agent Donna Hays’s recommendation and voted to deny an abatement for account 479 (map 7, lot 21; 393 Hodsdon Road). Chair Jon Morris read the agent’s memo before the vote.
On facilities maintenance, the town authorized emergency repairs to the Mallett Hall sprinkler system and approved up to $11,400 to complete a five-year replacement and related repairs. Fire Chief Jesse Peters advised the system remains technically in service but requires immediate replacement of failed antifreeze and several sprinkler heads. The administrator said remaining ARPA funds and the Mallett Hall maintenance line will be used to cover the work.
The board approved the private road name “Victory Way” for the Woodman Subdivision after Code Enforcement Officer Tim Giddinge confirmed the name is not a duplicate of existing road names in town.
The meeting closed with administrative notes about a rescheduled FOIA training, Pumpkin Fest remarks and welcoming new Public Works hire Quentin Brooks. The meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
The board’s routine approvals were unanimous; the items will return to upcoming agendas where additional project-level detail is required.
