Dennis golf director says replacing irrigation at both courses could cost about $7.5 million

Mary Anne Fabiano Stowe, the town’s golf director, updated the board on conceptual estimates for replacing irrigation at the Dennis Highlands and Dennis Pines golf courses. "We are right in the ballpark of what about 7 and a half million dollars to do both golf courses," she said, explaining that head counts (~1,100 irrigation heads) and prevailing wages drive costs and that material prices and contractor availability are key schedule risks.
Fabiano Stowe recommended doing the Highlands first—because its system is in worse condition—and then the Pines the following year rather than taking both courses offline at once. She said the golf capital improvement fund and a borrowing plan could cover about half the cost if structured over a 15‑ to 20‑year repayment schedule, and that 35% of membership fees plus 5% of greens fees currently feed the golf capital fund.
Board members asked for a financial plan showing three-year revenue and expense lookbacks and cash-flow projections to understand how borrowing and proposed fee changes would affect taxpayers; the board directed administration and finance to prepare a financial plan and a warrant article option for the topic to return at a subsequent meeting.
